Me And Television

When I was young,
there was an article
in the TV Guide
which asked us readers
if we had to choose,
would we give up TV
for a million dollars?
and I pondered this
at the time,
because I was so addicted
to the television,
that I wasn't sure
that I would give it up
for a million dollars,
even though
I really wanted
a million dollars,
so as I grew older
the TV began
to bother me
more and more,
and even began
to make me sick
and crazy,
but I still
couldn't give it up,
and so,
finally,
when I got to be
about sixty years old,
I had enough of it,
and I disconnected
the cable,
and turned it off
for good,
and it was the best thing
that I had done
for a long time,
and I don't regret it,
but, you know,
every once in a while,
I still get
a little craving
for the old
talking box.
